Increase in registration for online courses; MBA, BBA most popular: UGC
According to data shared by UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar, online registration for Bachelors of Business Administration (BBA) and Bachelors of Computer Application (BCA) has gained significant popularity. The official statistics indicate that 13,764 students have enrolled in the BBA course, 5,166 in BCA, and 4,028 in Bachelor of Arts.
In the realm of postgraduate courses, the Master of Business Administration (MBA) stands out as the most sought-after online program, attracting 28,956 students. Following closely are the Master of Computer Application with 5,430 enrollees and the Master of Commerce with 3,300 students. It’s noteworthy that this enrollment data encompasses applicants from both India and international locations.
Comparing the academic years 2020-21 and 2021-22, there has been a substantial surge in online course enrollments. In 2020-21, 25,905 students registered for online programs, a number that nearly tripled to 72,400 enrollees in 2021-22.
UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar emphasized the role of online programs in providing opportunities for students who may face geographical constraints. He anticipates a further boost in online education enrollments with the introduction of the National Digital University, coupled with flexible regulations for online education.
Breaking down the enrollment figures, deemed-to-be universities recorded the highest number of enrollments at 36,860, followed by private universities with 19,547 enrollees, and central universities with 6,888 students.
